Surprisingly Bangladeshis are among the top three nationalities to cross the Mediterranean Sea to reach European countries and many people are arrested or detained in Libya. 143 such people were brought back to Bangladesh yesterday with the help of Bangladesh Embassy in Libya and IOM.
After arriving in Dhaka CID of Bangladesh Police yesterday collected detailed information about their journey, recruitment process, transportation, destination, exploitations, rescue and repatriation.
My BRAC Migration Programme colleagues were involved in this joint work along with the CID team at the airport. The task of interviewing each person for long time was not very easy.
But the CID and BRAC colleagues patiently worked together for hours with sincerity. Thanks to the Ministry of Home Affairs, CID, Civil Aviation and everyone involved in this work.
I believe if we really can make a strong database after such interviewing that would help us to fight against irregular migration.
